Kala Hiran Filmmakers Slam Salman Khan’s Legal Notice, Call Actor’s Uncanny Resemblance “Purely Coincidental”

The legal storm surrounding the upcoming film Kala Hiran: Battle of Legacy has escalated into an all-out war of words. The friction intensified after Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s legal team reportedly slapped the filmmakers with a legal notice, alleging unauthorized and striking similarities between the movie’s protagonist and Khan.
However, producer Amit Jani and director Bharat S. Shrinate are refusing to back down. They firmly maintain that the film is not a biopic or a hidden commentary on the superstar’s highly publicized 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
The Controversy: That Iconic Turquoise Bracelet
The controversy erupted immediately after the film’s first-look posters dropped online. Netizens quickly pointed out that the lead actor bore an uncanny resemblance to Salman Khan. The speculation turned into certainty for many fans when they noticed the character wearing a silver-and-turquoise chain bracelet—the exact signature accessory Salman Khan has famously worn for decades.
Responding to the uproar in an interview with News18, director Bharat S. Shrinate fiercely defended his creative choices:
“The bracelet isn’t a patented accessory. If Salman feels that only he can wear it, he should get it patented so that it isn’t made available anywhere else in the world. I completely disagree with the narrative that this film or this character is based on Salman. Our character isn’t Salman Khan. This is just a movie!”
Fighting the Legal Notice
Shrinate expressed deep frustration over what he views as an intimidating corporate move designed to choke independent cinema. He emphasized that years of intense research, writing, and financial planning went into building the project.
“Salman Khan isn’t God. He isn’t my godfather. He can’t stop me. Neither can he destroy my career, nor can he make it. Sending a legal notice in one swift stroke is an attempt to freeze all our hard work because he assumes the film is about him. He should go and watch the film first, then decide. Ultimately, it’s the audience who will judge the value of our work.”
With both factions firmly dug into their positions, Kala Hiran: Battle of Legacy has transformed from a regional indie project into one of the most legally and publicly contested films on the current radar.
