The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has officially cleared the highly anticipated romantic comedy Cocktail 2 with an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate. In a major win for the filmmakers, the board passed the movie with zero visual cuts, ensuring all intimate and romantic scenes remain completely intact.
While the visuals were left untouched, the CBFC did mandate a few strategic audio modifications and subtitle alterations before granting clearance on June 16, 2026.
The Audio and Subtitle Modifications
The word ‘Agni’ was ordered to be replaced with ‘Diya’ everywhere it occurred in the film. A reference to the phrase ‘Jew on the run’ was censored. The CBFC order did not specify the exact context of the line or whether it referred to a specific individual, work, or generic expression. A specific cuss word featured in the English subtitles was ordered to be deleted. Following these adjustments, the film’s final runtime has been locked at 149.19 minutes (2 hours, 29 minutes, and 19 seconds).
A Historic ‘A’ Rating for the Star Cast
The ‘A’ certificate marks an interesting box-office milestone for its lead trio:
Kriti Sanon in her illustrious 12-year acting career, Cocktail 2 officially marks her very first adult-rated film.
Rashmika Mandanna comes with her second ‘A’-rated Hindi venture following the historic success of Animal (2023).
While Shahid Kapoor has his fifth adult-rated film of his career, following Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Kabir Singh (2019), and his recent 2026 release O’Romeo. This also marks the first time in Kapoor’s career that he will have back-to-back ‘A’-rated theatrical releases.
Legacy and Production
While the original 2012 Cocktail featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty, the upcoming sequel brings a fresh narrative dynamic written by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan. The project is directed by Homi Adajania, with hitmaker Pritam Chakraborty returning to compose the music. Cocktail 2 is a joint production between Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg’s Luv Films, and is slated for a grand theatrical release on June 19, 2026.
