It seems Bollywood’s ‘Acche din’ is back and we are more than happy. If Brahmastra took care of reviving not just Bollywood but also Indian cinema history in the previous three weeks, it is now up to Vikram Vedha to carry things forward from here.
Talking about the advance booking statistics and buzz on the ground, it looks like the action drama will break box office records, ensuring that the excellent work of the Ayan Mukherji-directed film gets a fitting follow-up with continued theatrical footfalls.
The film is not one of the typical commercial entertainment that Bollywood produces on a regular basis. That said, in some ways, it’s a plus because 2022 has already seen a number of films fail when it comes to films with the notion of assured success. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was an exception, but when it comes to other major releases in 2022 with big actors or large settings, there have been failures and disasters galore.
This is what makes Vikram Vedha fascinating because, while Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan star in it, the notion by Gayatri-Pushkar (who also created the original Tamil version with R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi) promises to be a totally different type of treat for moviegoers. As a result, although one cannot expect Hrithik to perform another War or Saif to provide another Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior moment, a strong start is on the cards.
As a result, the film is expected to be the second greatest Bollywood opener behind Brahmastra, with receipts expected to surpass Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 [14.11 crores], comfortably surpass the 15 crore barrier, and even approach the 18 crore level. So far, the sweet spot would be 15 crores, with everything over that considered a bonus.
