Hunkkaar – The Roar: Old Project, New Moment; How Aneet Padda’s Post-Saiyaara Stardom Greenlit an Archived Show

Actor Aneet Padda became an overnight sensation after starring in Mohit Suri’s romantic blockbuster film Saiyaara (2025). Before achieving this massive success, she had already wrapped up another project. That project was a socio-thriller series titled Hunkkaar. The show remained delayed behind studio doors for a long time. Now, it is finally gearing up for a high-profile digital release. The official teaser of the series is slated to drop today.
Industry sources reveal that Hunkkaar was shot and completed well before Saiyaara launched Padda into mainstream stardom. However, the decision to hold the project was purely strategic. Studios patiently waited until the actor’s box-office clout and market appeal surged. This strategic delay transformed a shelved show into a highly anticipated, headline-worthy event release.
Many believed that Hunkkaar was offered to Padda after her breakout success. Contrary to this perception, the project was born out of her long-standing professional relationship with directors Nitya Mehra and Karan Kapadia. Padda maintained deep creative trust with the director duo. This strong connection, combined with her post-Saiyaara box-office success, ultimately revived the show and cleared its path for distribution.
With its teaser landing today, Hunkkaar represents an intriguing career milestone for Aneet Padda. The upcoming socio-thriller features a strong lead cast. Alongside Padda, the series stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Arjun Mathur in key roles.
The ambitious project brings together a formidable lineup of major production houses. It is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, in association with Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s Purple Pebble Pictures. Meanwhile, Mangata Films serves as the primary production house for the series. The highly anticipated socio-thriller is set to premiere globally on the streaming platform JioHotstar.
