The Yash-starrer Toxic took a blockbuster start at the box office on Wednesday, August 26, collecting an impressive ₹55.40 crore for its Hindi version alone. The opening day numbers surpassed industry expectations, setting high hopes for the film’s theatrical run. However, the post-opening journey has proven disheartening as daily collections have consistently trended downward.
Following the massive opening day, a minor dip was expected on Thursday due to it being a regular working day. While trade analysts anticipated the film to hold strong around ₹30 crore, the collections dropped significantly to ₹24 crore. The decline continued on Friday despite the Raksha Bandhan holiday, with the film bringing in ₹19 crore as negative critical reviews and weak audience word-of-mouth began to impact footfalls.
The downward trend persisted over the weekend, with the movie collecting ₹15 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. While these numbers seem decent on paper, they fall short considering the film’s massive scale. Toxic currently occupies over 50 percent of screens nationwide, offering a daily earning capacity of over ₹50 crore that remains underutilized. Overall, the extended five-day weekend total for the Hindi version stands at an estimated ₹125 crore. In contrast, the devotional drama Hanuman Ansh has emerged as a major surprise success.
