Wiki – Anurag Kashyap is an Indian film director, screen writer and producer. He did his directorial debut with a movie called Paanch, which however was never released. As a producer Black Friday was hsi first, which remained controversial but fetched him a couple of awards. Then it followed a number of his movies including No Smoking, Gulal, DevD and Gangs of Wasseypur. Being a screenwriter he wrong the script for Staya, which gave him the Filmfare award, while he was nominated for Water in 2005. He owns his production house called Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd in 2009. Now he makes movie with this banner only.

Bio – As far as his early life and background is concerned he hails from Gorakhpur, UP from a non film background as his father worked in UPPC. He was brought up in this city but did his schooling from Green School Dehradun and went for his college at Scindia School in Gwalior. His brother Abhinav Kashyap is also into Bollywood world and he writes and directs movies, while his sister Anubhati helped him in movies like Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur. Right from his younger age, he was simply crazy about films and used to watch the movies of that time including Kora Kagaz, Aap Ki Kasam, Avishkaar, etc. However, this came to an end when he entered his school in Dehradun.

Later his dream changed and he headed to Delhi to become scientist and thus enrolled in a college called Hansraj College pursuing Zoology course. However, his attachment with films was revived wherein he started watching movies but at the same time turned out an alcoholic and even took drugs. This led him to depression, which made him confused that somehow led to the street theatre group called Jana Natya Manch wherein he started doing a number of street plays. Then he and his friends participated in an international film festival of India wherein he saw more than 50 movies in ten days getting a huge impact of film world on his persona.

This finally led him to Bombay in June 1993 with mere 5000 in his pocket. When all his money was over he stayed over the streets and other similar places in the dream city. After around one year he managed to find work at Prithvi Theatre, however, his first role was not complete due to his director’s death. He couldn’t do his next play at Makrand Deshpande’s troupe out of frustration and dejection. Later he wrote an 8 page drama called Main that rocked the college drama festival. His friends asked him to try out writing career, while his play was appreciated by people like Saeed Mirza and Govind Nihalaniand. His entry into the movie world was really a roller coaster ride wherein he was given work but he ended doing without the excitement and contentment. He kept reading and watching films in order to write for a couple of years and finally made his entry in Daud with Manoj Bajwai.

This is the place where he met Ram Gopal Verma who asked him to write a script for his movie Satya. The movie turned out a big hit, which made Varma to have more film scripts from him leading to movie Shool in 1999, while he then wrote dialogues for Yuva in 2004. Since then it was no looking back for Kashyap as he gradually entered into the director’s role and then headed to form his own company to turn a producer. Some of his remarkable movies as director include Gangs of Waseeypur, Dev D, Black Friday, while many wherein he worked as an actor and writer. He has bagged all the major awards for direction, writing, screen play and acting. His forthcoming movies include Bombay Velvet, Doga and Yudh, which he is directing and producing. He is married to Kalki Koechlin now, while his earlier marriage with his old time girlfriend Aarti Bajaj is given up when she turned alcoholic.
