Throwback to the time when late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan wanted to give Anu Malik ‘best copy award’

Legendary Pakistani singer, the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, once in an old interview spoke about popular Hindi film songs being inspired by his music. The singer who is also known as “Shahenshah-e-Qawwali” (The King of Kings of Qawwali), said that the Indian music composers Anu Malik and Viju Shah had both done ‘a good job’ at copying his songs.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a legend who composed music for a few films in India. His music inspired many Indian music composers in the early 1990s, with a few of their songs going on to become blockbuster hits. Many of his hit songs have been modified for film over the years.

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was asked about Indian music directors who were inspired by his work in an old Zee TV interview. He said, “Not best copy, they have done good work. Viju Shah has done well. Anu Malik has also copied me well”.

As the late singer responded, the song Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast from the 1994 film Mohra played. The song Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, composed by Anu Malik and picturized on actor Madhuri Dixit from the 1995 film Yaraana, was also included in the video.

Previously it was reported that the construction of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s mausoleum has been completed 24 years after his death. Rahat Ali Khan, the maestro’s nephew and world-renowned musician built the mausoleum.

Nusrat, who was born in 1948, died of a cardiac arrest on August 16, 1997. He was 48 years old. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, his nephew, is now taking his legacy forward. Rahat is a well-known singer in both India and Pakistan.
