Vinod Khanna’s birth anniversary: legendary actor’s memorable performances over the years

Legendary actor, producer, and politician Vinod Khanna are best recognized for his work in a range of genres. With his main roles, he won over everyone’s hearts and went on to become one of Bollywood’s most popular performers. Imtihaan, Kuchhe Dhaage, The Burning Train, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Rajput, Amar Akbar Anthony, Qurbani, Kudrat, Parvarish, Khoon Pasina, Chandni, Dayavan, and Jurm are only a few of his movies.

The late actor was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2018, a year after he passed away. The award, which is given yearly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is regarded as the highest honor in Indian cinema.

Here is a collection of some of his most memorable acting performances from the more than 140 films in which Vinod Khanna has appeared.

1) Achanak

Achanak

Vinod Khanna portrayed Major Ranjeet Khanna in the Gulzar-directed film. The role was apparently based on Commander Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, a naval commander who was tried for the murder of Prem Ahuja, his wife’s lover. The incident served as the basis for two movies: Yeh Rastey Hain Pyar Ke (1963) and Rustom (2016), which earned Akshay Kumar a national film award.

2) ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’

Vinod Khanna switched from playing villains to playing a good guy in “Hum Tum Aur Woh,” but in Raj Khosla’s “Mera Gaon Mera Desh,” he went back to playing a villain. He played the part of a threatening dacoit and stalked Dharmendra’s valiant persona. Even though the latter was nominated for Best Actor in the Filmfare Awards, Vinod’s outstanding performance cemented his place in our hearts.

3) Haath Ki Safai

Hath Ki Safai

The movie, which was directed by Prakash Mehra, starred Vinod Khanna, who received the film’s lone nomination and victory for Best Supporting Actor at the Filmfare Awards. The plot of the movie involved the customary reconciliation of estranged brothers. Hema Malini, Randhir Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Ranjeet, and Satyen Kappu were all cast members.

 4) Amar Akbar Anthony

‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ boasted of the traditional Manmohan Desai touch, which combined masala entertainment with a social message at the film’s center, following the pattern of estranged brothers coming together. Three brothers, were raised in three distinct religions—Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity—and separated from their parents and from one another as children. In their youth, they band together to battle a shared foe. The movie, which received numerous prizes at the 25th Filmfare Awards, including Best Actor, Best Music Director, and Best Editing, was the biggest box office hit of 1977.

5) Dayavan

Dayavan

Vinod Khanna resumed where he left off following a five-year hiatus at spiritual teacher Osho’s ashram and under his guidance. With “Dayavan,” the actor took advantage of the opportunity to play a kind-hearted mobster who devotes his life to helping others who are less fortunate than himself. He was overwhelmed with opportunities in action movies. His persona underwent a physical makeover, and the avatar depicted him was different from his outgoing persona. He still has one of the sexiest on-screen chemistry with Madhuri Dixit from the song “Aaj Phir Tum Pe.”
