Director Tarun Mansukhani has finally responded to the criticism surrounding Housefull 5, particularly the trolling it has faced on social media for allegedly objectifying women and featuring excessive skin show. In an exclusive interview with News18, the filmmaker discussed the backlash, asserting that the attention the film is receiving indicates that people are engaging with it. “I feel like there’s a lot of scrutiny on social media. I also believe that scrutiny tends to occur only with successful films. When a film isn’t performing well, people tend to remain silent. So, when there’s noise about my film, I actually feel very happy about it,” he stated.
Known for his nuanced storytelling in previous projects, Mansukhani emphasized the importance of audience feedback, asserting that viewers have every right to express their opinions after investing both time and money in a film. “It means that they’re watching it with a certain eye and sensibility. You can scrutinize it, and that’s fine. You’ve paid to see my film, so you deserve to have an opinion. It’s not a film that elicits indifference. For those calling it out, I want to say that it’s your choice to focus on that aspect,” he added.
Defending the narrative and character depth, Mansukhani highlighted that, contrary to the perception of a male-dominated storyline, the women in Housefull 5 play crucial roles in shaping the plot. “Akshay’s character, Jolly, discovers there’s a missing son and hires Nargis (Fakhri) to help him search. The story unfolds with her involvement, and it’s Sonam (Bajwa) who backstabs Riteish (Deshmukh), further advancing the plot. The narrative is driven by women, who are motivated by financial gain. Soundarya also plays a significant role as a suspect, busy transferring funds into an offshore account.”
Through this clarification, Tarun Mansukhani hopes that viewers will look beyond the surface and appreciate the layered storytelling within Housefull 5.
