An array of Bollywood films revolve around make bonding or bromance. Multiple movies are about men friendship like ‘Sholay’, 3 Idiots’, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, etc. However, very fewer films talk about women friendship. Often, women are type casted as the human beings who cannot form long-term friendships.

Gradually, the times are changing for good and some of the Bollywood films have commenced to speak about female camaraderie. Let’s have a look at some of such ventures.

  1. Dor

It can be tagged as the most matured portrayal of female bonding. This movie proves how women can be great support for each other when patriarchy, archaic social norms and entitled men join forces for restraining them. The leading ladies, Ayesha Takia and Gul Panag form a beautiful friendship even if their economic background and class differs.

  1. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Sometimes we make friends in random places, such as in a pub, on train journey, in a loo or something like that. The romantic film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ shows friendship between its female leads Naina (Deepika Padukone) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin). They make a good friendship bond and enjoy quality moments in life.

  1. Queen

One of the best Bollywood films, ‘Queen’ showed close friendship between the lead actress Kangana Ranaut and Lisa Haydon. Kangana goes to Paris as her solo trip and there she meets Lisa. The two become very good friends. This can be said as one of the best chemistry between two females on the screen. Lisa played such a friend to Kangana, who gets her out of the shell. For a better life, we all should have such a friend in our life.

  1. Chak De India

The movie realistically portrayed peer animosity and the eventual friendship and that’s what makes the film outstanding. Ensemble cast of women was featured in this sports film. Despite all the internal competition and issues, they together win it for the nation. They come from diverse background, leave behind their differences to bring victory in the sports of Hockey.

  1. Angry Indian Goddesses

The film spins around realistic situations and has an all-female gang. It has conversations pertaining to different topics like life, sex and much real life stuff. The movie is an ode to women friendship.

  1. Lajja

The movie was not specifically about female friendship but the tales of women supporting each other through tough situations in life makes the film memorable. ‘Lajja’ released in the year 2011 and it was about female foeticide, honour killing, dowry and other issues.

  1. Parched

‘Parched’ narrates the life of women in Rajasthan and shows the issues like patriarchal norms, gender politics, misogyny. The village’s hostility towards women bring together four rural women and they form a bond. The lead characters converse on various subjects like the ambitions, men and sex.
