Sikandar Day 1 Box Office Collection: Salman Khan’s Film Opens at Half of Jawan, Falls Short of L2 Empuraan

Salman Khan’s Sikandar hit theatres on Sunday, March 30, marking the superstar’s return to his beloved festival—Eid—after a two-year hiatus. Following the disappointing performance of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan in 2023, Sikandar was seen as Salman’s opportunity to reclaim his Eid success. However, the film’s lackluster box office performance has squandered that chance.
On its opening day, Sikandar barely crossed ₹50 crore worldwide—a figure that might have been celebrated a decade ago but is now considered mediocre, especially in an era where Bollywood films are achieving similar numbers domestically. Consequently, Salman has not secured the title for the biggest opening by an Indian film this year, falling behind Mohanlal’s Malayalam thriller L2: Empuraan.

Sikandar Opening Day Collections

Despite being Salman’s first Eid release in two years, Sikandar did not set any records with its advance bookings. According to Sacnilk, the film’s domestic collection was a modest ₹26 crore net, which is lower than Chhaava’s ₹31 crore debut. On Monday morning, the filmmakers announced that Sikandar had earned ₹54 crore worldwide on its opening day. This figure is not reflective of Salman’s star power. For comparison, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan garnered over twice that amount—₹109 crore—on its opening day in September 2023.Negative reviews and poor word of mouth appear to have impacted the film’s performance, as it failed to see an increase in foot traffic during the evening shows. Whether Sikandar can recover depends entirely on its performance on Monday, the Eid holiday.

How Sikandar Lost to Empuraan

With a worldwide gross of ₹54 crore on its opening day, Sikandar just edged out Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which earned ₹47.25 crore during its debut in February. Although Salman’s star power helped Sikandar close the domestic gap in overseas markets, it could not compete with L2: Empuraan, which achieved the highest opening for any Indian film this year just four days prior, grossing ₹67 crore worldwide on its first day—well beyond Sikandar’s reach.
