Sidhant Gupta Replaces Farhan Akhtar in Aamir Khan-Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lalkaara

Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s highly anticipated sports drama Lalkaara has undergone a major casting shift. Actor Farhan Akhtar has officially exited the project, with Jubilee star Sidhant Gupta stepping in as his replacement.
Farhan reportedly opted out of the film due to conflicting schedules with Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming biopic on legendary music maestro R.D. Burman. Playing the iconic composer demands extensive preparation and an exclusive production timeline, making it difficult for Farhan to commit to the months of rigorous cricket training required for Gowariker’s film. Despite stepping down from his acting role, Farhan remains attached to Lalkaara as a producer alongside Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment, in association with Rajkumar Hirani Films.
The casting change will not delay the film’s timeline. Sidhant Gupta who earned acclaim for his standout performances in Jubilee, Black Warrant, and Freedom at Midnight will now play one of Aamir Khan’s close friends in the movie.
Lalkaara marks the iconic reunion of Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker 25 years after their landmark film Lagaan. Scripted by Piyush Gupta (Dangal) and Neeraj Singh (Nil Battey Sannata), the ambitious narrative centers on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series, exploring themes of national pride, intense rivalry, and lasting friendship.
Aamir will portray independent India’s first cricket captain, Lala Amarnath, who led the nation in its first-ever Test series against Pakistan following Partition. Principal photography for the sports saga remains on track to kick off on October 1 in Mumbai.
