Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap Present Short Film Bobby Beauty Parlour for Friendship Week
Longtime friends and acclaimed directors Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap have reunited to present a coming-of-age short film titled Bobby Beauty Parlour. Timed for Friendship Week, the film premieres on the Oh Short Flips YouTube channel on August 6 at midnight.
Directed by Shashwat Dwivedi, Bobby Beauty Parlour follows childhood best friends Eelu and Manu during one final afternoon together before life pulls them down separate paths. Set mostly inside a local beauty parlor, the story captures the sweet nostalgia of youth as the pair drink, argue, nap, and attempt to cling to a bond that is rapidly shifting.
The project marks a meaningful creative collaboration for Ali and Kashyap, whose own bond stretches back to their college days in Delhi. Produced by Janhavi Asthana who also co-wrote and shot the film alongside Ranjan Singh and Kashyap, the project features a cast that includes Adrija Sinha, Parul Rana, Saksham Raj, and Preeti Kochar.
Praising the short’s delicate tone, Imtiaz Ali noted how the story brought back fond memories of his own hometown, early friendships, and adolescent choices. Anurag Kashyap echoed this affection, calling it a deeply personal coming-of-age narrative about aspirations and growing up, while expressing pride in director Dwivedi’s artistic growth. Producer Ranjan Singh added that after a successful run at international film festivals, releasing this heartwarming tale on YouTube during Friendship Week felt like the perfect fit. Director Shashwat Dwivedi, who learned much of his craft from YouTube, expressed his gratitude for having two of his major influences present his work, hoping the film inspires viewers across the globe to reach out to their old friends.
