Bio – Shilpa Shetty alias Nee Shetty is an Indian actress, model and entrepreneur. She made her roads to Bollywood with the successful hit called Baazigar in 1993, while has acted in more than 40 different Hindi, Kannada and Telugu films. Aag was her first film wherein she got the leading role after a sizable role in Baazigar. Apart from being an established actress in Bollywood, she is also seen participating in the Celebrity Big Brother 5 a popular TV show in Great Britain, wherein she returned with the crown on her head after the infamous racist controversy broke out. This further strengthened her status in home country in the year 2007 wherein she was seen giving good hits like Life in a Metro and Apne, wherein she was applauded for her performance in the former movie.

Talking about her early life and background, she comes from a traditional family of Mangalore having roots in the Bunt community. Her father is a manufacturer of tamper proof caps, which is meant for the pharmaceutical world. As far as her schooling is concerned, she attended Saint Anthony Girls’ High School in Chembur and later did her college from Podar College based in Matunga. She is a trained dancer or Bharatnatayam along with being active in sports during her school and college days. She also holds black belt in Karate and right now is a big dance sport enthusiast and expert. Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also a known Bollywood actress. Both the sisters were seen working together in a movie called Fareb in 2005.
As far as her film career is concerned, she had a roller coaster ride. Starting her modeling career at the age of 16, she was picked up for the film in Baazigar, which was a big hit in 1993. Later she got her full-fledged role in the movie called Aag, which recorded an average performance over the box office. The same year (1994), she got her another hit called Main Khiladi Tu Anari, which Shilpa Shetty played opposite Akshay Kumar. Later the slot of 1995 to 1999 witnessed a number of her flop movies namely Hathkadi. However, her Tamil and Telugu films (Mr. Romeo and Veedevadandi Babu) were seeing really well at the box office. The 2000- 07 slots again was filled with both critical acclaim and several box office success stories. The movies like Dhadkan (2000), Rishtey (2002), Phir Milenge (2004) and Dus (2005). She applauded and awarded for the Fir Milenge wherein most of the critics calling this film purely of Shilpa only.
Apart from being engrossed in her film career, Shilpa Shetty was dragged into a number of controversies too. Right from the racist remarks at the Celebrity Big Brother to the Celebrity Big Brother racism controversy to the Richard Gere kissing incident, the obscenity charges where in the court at Madurai had issued her the non bail able warrant for posing in a vulgar way and of course the recent IPL controversy that cooked last year in 2013. Apart from acting and modeling, she is also involved in a number of social and philanthropy causes including certain projects of PETA, HIV AIDS awareness and fund raising programs, etc. She is also the co-owner of the IPL team of Rajasthan Royals. She was awarded with a number of popular film awards for her number of movies. She is also the judge in the famous reality dance programs including Nach Baliye.
