The B Town had a busy day today as we can see three films releasing on the same day. This certainly include the Vidhu Vinod Chopra film – Shikara. The film had debutants in the lead roles, while it is based on the issue of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their land by the Kashmiri Muslims in the early eighties. The makers have got mixed reviews for the film by most of the critics, but the way the film has performed over the box office was disappointing.
The film started with the occupancy report of 10 to 15 per cent, which did soar in the afternoon and evening shows. However, it wasnt that impressive as it restricted to only 25 to 30 per cent. Well, with this occupancy rate, the 1st box office collection for the film Shikara reached to around 1.2 Crores, which is still a decent figure to celebrate by the makers. The reasons are obvious, the film had a very low buzz in the media and similar was the case in terms of star value.
It was too low to help the film to propser at the box office. All the new faces doing debut in the film playing the Kashmiri Pandits. While the reviews of the film by most of the critics have been average. Thirdly and most importantly, the film faced tough competition from Disha Patani and Aditya Roy Kapur starrer film Malang that ruined the fate of the film in a big way. Shikara is expected to gain not more than 5 Crores at the box office as far as the first weekend box office collection is concerned. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us.
