Audience will not get to see the films for Rs 75 on Sept 16 ‘National Cinema Day’, thanks to Brahmastra’s success

A few days ago Multiplex Association of India (MAI) announced that September 16 would be designated as National Cinema Day in India. This would imply that many cinemas would sell tickets for Rs 75. Now it seems the celebrations appear to have been postponed by a week. According to a report, MAI has decided to postpone National Cinema Day by one week. The decision was reportedly made to protect the collections of Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra, which was released on September 9.
The celebration of National Cinema Day, which was scheduled to take place on September 16 across multiplexes in India, has apparently been postponed by a week. The new date is September 23. The choice was made in order to prevent it from impacting Brahmastra’s box office earnings, which opened to a fantastic reception on September 9.

“The Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra is the dominant film at present and is doing great. It was strong even on Monday, which proves that it’ll do strong business on the second weekend too. Disney, who has released Brahmastra, hence requested the multiplex association to push the celebrations by a week. The MAI and the multiplex teams found merit in their request,” a source was quoted as saying.

Action-adventure drama Brahmastra is the first installment in a three-part trilogy. Ranbir Kapoor plays a simpleton in the Ayan Mukerji-helmed blockbuster who has a special connection to fire. Alia Bhatt plays the female lead in the movie, which is her first film opposite her husband. The cast of Brahmastra includes Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and Amitabh Bachchan. Shah Rukh Khan also makes a special cameo in the film. According to the reports in four days, Brahmastra brought in close to Rs 139 crore at the box office. A sequel that will be called Dev is yet to get its release date.
