Poonam Dhillon Reacts to Arshad Warsi’s ‘Joker’ Comment on Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD: ‘I’m Sure No Harm Was Intended

A recent controversy has emerged in the Indian film industry following actor Arshad Warsi’s comments about Prabhas in the sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD. During an interview, Warsi’s remarks sparked outrage among members of the Telugu film community. In light of the backlash, CINTAA (Cine and TV Artistes Association) president Poonam Dhillon confirmed that she received a letter from MAA (Movie Artists Association) president Vishnu Manchu, who expressed serious concern over Warsi’s disrespectful comments towards the Telugu film industry.
In a discussion with Hindustan Times, Dhillon acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and emphasized the need for unity within the film fraternity. She suggested that Warsi’s comments may have been directed at the character rather than Prabhas himself, yet she still called for clarification and resolution. “This has certainly caused some unpleasantness, particularly in the Telugu industry,” Dhillon stated, adding that they plan to reach out to Warsi for his perspective on the matter.
Dhillon expressed hope that Warsi would clarify his statement and address any hurt feelings caused within the Telugu film community. She highlighted Prabhas’ reputation as a well-respected figure in the industry, suggesting that the comments were not meant as a personal attack. “While I believe his remarks may have been aimed at a character, I still urge him to clarify and, if necessary, mend any hurt caused to the artists of the Telugu industry. We are all part of one industry,” she said.
Moreover, Dhillon emphasized the interconnectedness of Indian film industries and the importance of avoiding division or conflict arising from such incidents. She expressed a desire for an amicable resolution to maintain a harmonious environment for all artists. “We will allow Arshad to clarify his stance; I cannot speak for him,” she noted, expressing confidence that he would not make derogatory comments about someone as respected as Prabhas.
The controversy ignited when Warsi, during an appearance on the show Unfiltered by Samdish, referred to Prabhas’ look in Kalki 2898 AD as resembling a ‘joker.’ While praising Amitabh Bachchan’s performance in the film, he conveyed his disapproval of Prabhas’ appearance, leading to the current uproar.
