Netflix Drops ‘The Royals’ Trailer: Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter Star in a Modern Royal Romance

Netflix is set to premiere its latest original series, The Royals, a delightful royal romantic comedy, on May 9, 2025. Created by Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy, and produced by Pritish Nandy Communications, the show combines the allure of Indian royalty with the dynamism of modern ambition. Set in the majestic yet decaying city of Morpur, the narrative centers on an unexpected partnership between a hesitant prince and a fiercely ambitious CEO. Ishaan Khatter stars as Aviraaj Singh, a polo-playing royal searching for purpose, while Bhumi Pednekar portrays Sophia Kanmani Shekhar, a determined self-made CEO aiming to transform Morpur’s aging haveli into a luxury bed and breakfast. What starts as a strategic business venture soon unfolds into a comedic whirlwind of romance, chaos, and personal growth, as sparks fly, egos clash, and hidden secrets emerge.
The Royals is a fresh, modern-day rom-com — zany, unpredictable, and full of surprises. I can’t wait for audiences to dive into the world of Morpur; there’s love, drama, and humor — something for everyone. Maharaja Aviraaj is the most frustratingly charming character I’ve played, and I hope viewers enjoy him as much as I did.”Veteran actress Zeenat Aman, who also stars in the series, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Royals has been both refreshing and creatively fulfilling. Working with vibrant young talents made every moment on set lively and engaging. I’m grateful to Pritish Nandy Communications and Netflix for including me in this extraordinary tale of romance.”
Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, and written by Neha Veena Sharma, The Royals features a stellar ensemble cast, including Zeenat Aman, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny. The Royals promises a captivating blend of glamour, humor, and heartfelt drama, exploring the intersection of royal tradition and modern ambition — and perhaps even love. The series will be available exclusively on Netflix starting May 9.
