Anurag Kashyap Apologizes Again for ‘Urinate on Brahmins’ Remark Following Backlash

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a new apology to the Brahmin community following backlash over his controversial remarks during a social media exchange. The director of Gangs of Wasseypur had previously sparked outrage with his comment about “urinating on Brahmins” in response to a user’s post. In light of the criticism, he has shared a heartfelt apology in Hindi on the X platform, acknowledging his mistake and expressing regret for any hurt caused.
In his latest post, Kashyap admitted to losing his temper while responding to a provocative comment, resulting in an inappropriate generalization about the entire community. He emphasized the significant role that members of the Brahmin community have played in both his personal and professional life, noting that his own family has been impacted by his words. Here is the English translation of Kashyap’s statement: “In anger, I lost my composure while responding to someone and ended up insulting the entire Brahmin community. This is the same community whose many members have been part of my life and continue to contribute significantly. Today, all of them are hurt by me.
My family is hurt, and many intellectuals I deeply respect are also affected by my words and tone. I derailed the entire conversation due to my mistake. I sincerely apologize to the community—I never intended to say what I did, but in a fit of rage, I ended up writing that. I apologize to all my friends, colleagues, family, and the community for my choice of words and the offensive language used. Going forward, I will work on controlling my anger and expressing my points more thoughtfully. I hope you all will forgive me.

“This apology follows an earlier note in which Kashyap maintained that he stood by the essence of his statement but regretted how one line was misinterpreted. That note failed to quell the outrage, with several Brahmin organizations demanding stringent action against him. One group even announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for anyone who would blacken the filmmaker’s face.
Amid escalating backlash, Kashyap’s latest post appears to be an effort to redirect the conversation towards a more respectful tone and take responsibility for his statements. He assured his followers that he would make a conscious effort to manage his anger and communicate his opinions more mindfully in the future.
