Madhuri Dixit Shares a Heartwarming Memory of Her Mother Teaching Her Husband to Cook: “Food Is Love”

Madhuri Dixit, currently promoting her latest JioHotstar web series Mrs Deshpande, recently appeared on Kunal Vijaykar’s YouTube show Khaane Mein Kya Hai? where she opened up about food, family, and a tender memory involving her late mother, Snehlata Dixit. Madhuri reflected on the deep-rooted belief that food is an expression of love, especially in Indian households. She fondly recalled how, early in her married life, her husband Dr. Shriram Nene would often ask her mother to teach him how to cook. “I always feel food is love. Our mothers, grandmothers, they make food with so much love,” Madhuri shared.

She added a charming anecdote about the contrast between her husband’s precise measurements and her mother’s intuitive style. “My mom used to say, ‘Put a handful of this, put a pinch of that.’ He used to say, one teaspoon or half a teaspoon, and she always responded, saying, ‘Not like this. Put it according to your instinct,’” Madhuri recalled with a smile.For those unfamiliar, Madhuri’s mother Snehlata Dixit passed away in March 2023 at the age of 90. This shared memory offered a rare glimpse into the warmth and values that shaped Madhuri’s family life.

Professionally, Madhuri is leading the series Mrs Deshpande on JioHotstar, marking a significant departure from her earlier roles. In a previous interview with Bollywood Hungama, she spoke about the challenge of portraying a serial killer and credited director Nagesh Kukunoor for instilling confidence to embrace this unconventional role.

Praising Kukunoor, Madhuri said, “He is a fantastic filmmaker. I have seen his films, I have seen his series and I’m very impressed with his work. I think he works very doggedly, like his vision is very clear when he makes a film.” She added that his clarity and assurance were key factors in her decision to take on the project. “It’s such a different role for me to play that I first of all said yes to hearing the narration, and once I heard their vision, I was assured that it will be made in a very good way and I’ll be presented the way it should be done,” she explained.
