Kareena Kapoor is one of the leading actresses of Indian cinema. She is the granddaughter of Raj Kapoor, the legendary actor of the Hindi cinema and belongs to the third generation of the Kapoor family to come into films. She is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor , a yesteryears actor and her sister Karisma Kapoor and mother Babita were also noted actresses. She debuted in the year 2000 alongside Abhishekh Bacchan in the film Refugee. Although there were less initial success, Kareena was known to possess a zestful spirit and enthusiasm for her work and apart from her work , she became a style icon and remained popular in the field of brand endorsements.
Thanks to her Kapoor lineage, Kareena had a natural inclination towards films and had an easy entry in Bollywood. Kareena was offered Kaho Na Pyar Hain, the launch vehicle for Rakesh Roshan’s son Hrithik roshan, which she turned down after shooting for few days. Kareena was looking for a better potential role for her debut and finally acted in Refugee, a war drama film . The film was a moderate success but her performance and talent was recognized and she won the FilmFare Best actress in Debut in 2000. What followed were moderately successful films like Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hain and Yaadein which established her as a talented and fashionable actress. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham by Karan Johar gave her the role of Poo( Pooja ) who is modern , superficial but good natured girl. Her pairing with Hrithik Roshan was adored and later ,more glamorous roles came her way.
In 2001, she played the role of Kaurvaki in the historic period drama Asoka to Sharukh Khan who played the king Ashok. The role brought her much critical acclaim and success. She looked a dazzling beauty and her performance was flawless in the film.
Later there was a dull period in Kareena’s career as she acted in films like Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye , Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Khushi , Fida. In Fida , she worked opposite Shahid Kapoor with whom thereon she had a romantic relationship for three years. During their relationship, the two young stars were publically open in the media about their love life which was unconventional in those days. Their love life was a matter of great interest for the fans as well as for the media. Her career was hitting a low point before it was saved by the film Chameli (2004) that saw her playing the title role of a courtesan. Kareena, though first hesitant to accept the role penned by Sudhir Mishra , took a colossal risk by playing a streetwalking courtesan and that paid her with a special jury award that year. Critical acclaim came her way with Chameli and thereafter Dev , a Govind Nihlani film in which she essayed the role of a riot victim based on a true story. She bagged FilmFare Best Actress in 2004. While she played a devoted wife donning the lawyer coat to save her husband form legal punishment in Aitraaz, she attempted comedy again in Hulchul in 2004. She was loved in both the movies and her acting skills were recognized to be beyond ordinary. In 2006, she acted in Chupke Chupke and Omkara. One a romantic comedy and other an adaptation of Shakesperean classic othello in which she portayed Desdemona. Vishal Bharadwaj directed Omkara was a trump card for Kareena who struck gold with the role and won hearts of fans and critics alike. She won the Filmfare Critics Best Actress Award and was nominated for best actress that year.

Her biggest trump card was waiting for her in the form of Jab We Met in the year 2007. Jab We Met had a mind blowing script and she was casted opposite her Boyfriend Shahid Kapoor. Geet Dhillon , her character was an outspoken spontaneous and adventurous girl who falls in love with Shahid’s character having a contrasting nature. Kareena took everyone by surprise and became the soul of the film with her natural charm and spontaneity. She won Fimfare award for Best actress for the film. During the filming of Jab We Met, Kareena and Shahid separated amongst rumors that the actress is dating another man. While she garnered eye balls for her ultra slim figure she newly acquired, there were also reports that she and actor Saif Ali Khan were dating each other. The reports of their proximity and Kareena’s alluring avatar in the film Tashan was hot news in the media that year. Within few months, the couple made public appearance together and accepted their relationship openly.
Kareena featured in highly commercially successful films thereafter namely Golmal series, Bodyguard and the record making 3 idiots, Ra one and Heroine. She married Saif Ali Khan in 2012 and became a part of the Khan family. Presently she is one of the highest paid actresses in the industry and now works on Singham 2 and Badtameez Dil.
