Jia Khan Suicide Case Verdict: Sooraj Pancholi walks free of abetment of suicide charges ‘due to lack of evidence’

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Mumbai issued its final verdict today in connection with the death of actress Jiah Khan. Sooraj Pancholi, an actor, was charged with aiding Jia Khan’s suicide after she was discovered dead at her residence in Mumbai on June 3, 2013.

Now according to ANI, the court gave its verdict and Sooraj has been acquitted of abetment charges in the Jiah Khan suicide case due to ‘paucity of evidence’.

ANI shared the news on Twitter, “Actor Sooraj Pancholi acquitted of abetment charges in Jiah Khan suicide case.”

After the verdict was announced Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan told ETimes that she will continue to fight, and challenge the verdict , “The judgement is not surprising. I anticipated this. Our battle is still on. We will appeal.” She also added, “The CBI never took interest in the case.”

Jiah Khan suicide case: Jiah Khan, who appeared in films such as Nishabd (2007), Ghajini (2008), and Housefull (2010), was discovered dead in her Juhu flat on June 3, 2023. Actor Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, who was allegedly in a relationship with Jiah, was charged with abetment of suicide after a 6-page letter was discovered in Jiah’s flat detailing her “intimate relationship” with Sooraj and her “physical abuse” and “mental torture” by Sooraj. In 2013, Mumbai Police charged him with Section 306 (physical abuse and mental and bodily torture). The CBI took up the investigation from the Maharashtra Police in July 2014, as mandated by the Bombay High Court.
