HAQ to Release on November 7, 2025: Yami Gautam Dhar Portrays Fierce “Indian Muslim Woman” Seeking Justice; Emraan Hashmi as Celebrated Lawyer

Produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ is a powerful, intense drama inspired by the landmark Supreme Court judgment in the Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum case. Exploring the debate between Personal Law and Secular Law, the film is directed by Suparn S Varma and features Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi in some of their most compelling and layered roles to date.
HAQ is a fictionalized, dramatized adaptation of events from the book Bano: Bharat ki Beti by Jigna Vora. It revisits one of India’s most controversial legal battles from the 1980s—a conversation that remains urgent and relevant today. The film asks poignant questions: Should justice be equal for all? Is it time for one nation, one law? Where do personal beliefs end and secular law begin?
Should India adopt a Uniform Civil Code (UCC)?Junglee Pictures, known for bold storytelling that challenges societal norms with films like Raazi, Talvar, and Badhaai Do, returns with this gripping drama poised to captivate audiences. For Yami Gautam, HAQ marks her next major theatrical release after her acclaimed performance in Article 370. She embodies a determined Muslim woman who refuses to be silenced.
Wronged and abandoned, her character fights against a system rigged against her. Fearlessly, she takes her fight to court, demanding her Haq (right) for herself and her children under Section 125 of the law. Emraan Hashmi plays a sharp, celebrated lawyer who joins her battle in a story that challenges society to take a stand.
Beginning as a love story, HAQ evolves into a courtroom drama that delves into deeper questions of faith, identity, liberalism, personal belief, and ultimately policy and law—centered around the Uniform Civil Code under Article 44.At its heart, HAQ is driven by a mother’s raw, unyielding courage. The film is gripping, unpredictable, and packed with relentless twists, emotions, and drama.
Set to hit theatres on November 7, 2025, HAQ is directed by the dynamic Suparn S Varma (creator of Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, The Family Man, Rana Naidu) and written by Reshu Nath. The stellar cast also includes Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady, adding further depth to this compelling narrative.
