Supreme Court Rejects Jacqueline Fernandez’s Plea in Rs 200 Crores Fraud Case

On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed actress Jacqueline Fernandez’s petition seeking relief in the Rs 200 crores fraud case connected to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Jacqueline had challenged the Delhi High Court’s July 3 order, which refused to quash the FIR filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the money laundering investigation.

In her plea, Jacqueline claimed to be a victim of Sukesh’s targeted deception. She pointed out that the ED acknowledged that Tihar jail officials had allowed Sukesh access to mobile phones and other electronic devices, which he allegedly used to defraud not only the complainant but also several members of the film industry, including her.

Jacqueline also emphasized her role as a prosecution witness in the predicate offence and contended that further legal proceedings against her should be dropped.

However, the Delhi High Court had previously ruled that Jacqueline’s intent and awareness regarding the alleged crime can only be assessed during the trial. The actress, known for films like Murder 2 and Kick, has consistently denied the charges, asserting she was unaware of Sukesh’s criminal activities.

Allegations Against Jacqueline by the ED

The Enforcement Directorate alleges that Jacqueline received luxury gifts valued at approximately Rs 7 crores from Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The agency claims these gifts were bought using proceeds from the Rs 200 crores fraud.Sukesh Chandrasekhar stands accused of cheating Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh, former promoters of Ranbaxy, out of Rs 200 crores.

He is also charged with duping several high-profile individuals while incarcerated in Tihar jail. So, with the Supreme Court’s dismissal of her petition, Jacqueline Fernandez will now face trial, where detailed examination of her intent and knowledge in the money laundering case will take place.
