Happy Birthday Jagjit Singh: Top 5 songs crooned by the ‘Ghazal King’

Today, on 8th February, lets celebrate and rejoice the 81st birth anniversary of ‘The Ghazal King’ Jagjit Singh. Born as Jagmohan Singh Dhiman, at Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, the legendary musician composed and sang in numerous languages. Jagjit Singh is considered to be the most successful ghazal singer and composer of all time in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success. The veteran musician took his last breath on 10th October 2011 at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai.

Today, on his birthday let us go back and hear the top 5 songs presented by him.

1. Hothon Se Chhulo Tum:

Released in 1981 starring Raj Babbar and Anita Raj film Prem Geet’s song Hothon Se Chhulo Tum is one the most healing track ever. Sung by none another than Jagjit Singh. This ghazal is played at almost all the gatherings and events even today.

2. Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya:

One of the most appealing Ghazal in Bollywood during the time of 90’s where, others were busy trying out modern music, Jagjit Ji stuck to what he is known for and hence, Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya remain as an outstanding masterpiece in the whole film Sarfarosh starring Aamir Khan and Sonali Bendre.

3. Koi Fariyaad:
A mesmerizing Ghazal from the film Tum Bin, Koi Fariyaad holds a special place in all our hearts but the iconic song from Tum Bin wasn’t as easy to croon for the legendary ghazal singer.

4. Tumko Dekha Toh Yeh Khayal Aaya:

Sung by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh, from the 1982 film Saath Saath is picturised on Farooq Shaikh and Deepti Naval. The lyrics of the ghazal have been penned by Javed Akhtar. The song is romantic poetry love which still reverberates with youngsters even now.

5. Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho:

From the film Arth, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho was sung by the Ghazal Master Jagjit Singh. The song recreates the sentiments of a person who is trying to hide emotions with a smile.
