Crazxy Movie Review: Sohum Shah and Unnathi Surana Deliver a Gripping Social Thriller

“Crazxy” plunges us into the chaotic world of Dr. Abhimanyu Sood (Sohum Shah), a surgeon whose life unravels after a patient’s accidental death. Facing a hefty settlement and a desperate ransom demand for his kidnapped daughter, Vedika (Unnathi Surana), who has Down’s Syndrome, Abhimanyu embarks on a frantic race against time.  

The film effectively portrays Abhimanyu’s internal conflict: his desire to save his career versus his responsibility as a father. The script maintains a razor-sharp pace, though it requires suspension of disbelief at times, particularly with the character’s illogical route choices. The narrative also incorporates a unique element: a life-saving surgery conducted via video call while Abhimanyu changes a flat tire.

Star Performance: Sohum Shah Carries the Film

Sohum Shah delivers a compelling performance as Dr. Abhimanyu, showcasing the character’s transformation from a confident surgeon to a desperate father. He convincingly portrays the doctor’s emotional turmoil and physical exhaustion. Unnathi Surana, as Vedika, provides a touching presence.  

The film employs a unique storytelling device, utilizing only voice acting for supporting roles. Nimisha Sajayan, Shilpa Shukla, Tinnu Anand, and Piyush Mishra deliver strong vocal performances, adding depth to the narrative.

Direction and Music: A Unique Cinematic Experience

Writer-director Girish Kohli crafts a tense and engaging thriller, keeping the audience on edge for much of the film. The visual style, though occasionally gimmicky, enhances the film’s frenetic atmosphere. The film’s social message regarding children with special needs adds a layer of depth to the narrative.

Jesper Kyd’s background score effectively heightens the tension, though it can be overpowering at times. The film incorporates a mix of original and re-used songs, with the latter, particularly “Abhimanyu” and “Goli Maar Bheje Mein,” making a memorable impact.

Final Verdict: A Must-Watch Thriller

“Crazxy” is a unique and compelling cinematic experience, reminiscent of films like “Pushpak” and “A Wednesday.” Despite its occasional implausibilities, the film delivers a gripping thriller with a powerful social message. Sohum Shah’s performance and Girish Kohli’s direction make this film a must-watch, even surpassing “Tumbbad” for some.
