CBFC Censors Cuss Words in Nishaanchi; Marks Anurag Kashyap’s Longest Film with a 58-Second Post-Credit Scene

After a gap of two and a half years since Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat (2023), Anurag Kashyap returns with his latest theatrical release, Nishaanchi. This crime comedy features newcomer Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role and has caught attention for its quirky promotions and songs. Known for facing extensive cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Kashyap’s fans should note that Nishaanchi is no exception—though the nature of the cuts this time is somewhat different.

Fortunately, Nishaanchi did not undergo any visual cuts, leaving its action, violent, and romantic scenes intact. However, according to the CBFC’s Examining Committee, certain foul language had to be modified. Specifically, one particular curse word was flagged for modification in six instances, while other cuss words appearing in six additional scenes were also asked to be suitably altered.Following these changes, Nishaanchi received a U/A 16+ certificate on August 21. The original runtime listed on the censor certificate was 176 minutes and 48 seconds (2 hours, 56 minutes, 48 seconds).

On September 5, the filmmakers voluntarily approached the CBFC to make further modifications. They added the 2-minute-14-second song “Saram Lagela,” included a 58-second post-credit scene, and appended a six-second slate reading “End of part 1.” Additionally, logos for Zee Music Company and Amazon Prime Video were incorporated, adding another 17 seconds.

Other changes included replacing the opening credit titles, deleting the 39-second song “Ee Manwaa” and substituting it with background music, and swapping the song “Sunday Ke Maar” with “Tohara Naam Dil Pe.”Overall, 39 seconds of footage were removed while 3 minutes and 35 seconds were added, bringing the updated runtime to 179 minutes and 44 seconds (2 hours, 59 minutes, 44 seconds). This makes Nishaanchi the longest film directed by Anurag Kashyap to date.
