Pamela Chopra, wife of filmmaker-producer Yash Chopra passes away at 74

Pamela Chopra, the wife of legendary filmmaker-producer Yash Chopra, died this morning, April 20. She was 74 at the time. According to Filmfare, Pamela died in the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. As per several media reports, she had been hospitalised for the previous 15 days and was placed on a ventilator by doctors; nevertheless, her health deteriorated. She died as a result of age-related ailments.

Yash Raj Films has released an official announcement regarding her death and funeral arrangements. In the official statement YRF has revealed that Pamela Chopra’s cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai.

Pamela married Yash Chopra in 1970. She is the mother of Aditya Chopra, a producer and filmmaker, and Uday Chopra, an actor. She also happens to be Rani Mukerji’s mother-in-law. Pamela was a skilled professional playback singer who had lent her voice to the soundtracks of numerous films by the legendary Yash Chopra such as Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila, Kaala Patthar, Darr,  Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mujhse Dosti Karoge!

Pamela Chopra was most recently seen in the YRF docu-series The Romantics, which commemorated the studio’s 50th anniversary. In the documentary, she discussed her path, Yash Chopra’s long career, and how Aditya Chopra carried on the heritage.

On social media, the film industry expressed their condolences to the Kapoor family. . Actor Ajay Devgn shared his condolences on twitter. “My thoughts & prayers are with Adi, Rani, Uday and all members of the Chopra family in their hour of grief. RIP respected Pam Chopra Ji Shanti”

Javed Akhtar, another close family friend, also expressed his condolences to the family. “Today Pam ji, the better half of Shri Yash Chopra has passed away. She was a great lady. Intelligent, educated, warm and witty. Those who like me have worked closely with Yash ji know about her contribution in his scripts and music. She was an exceptional person.”

Pamela Chopra has received various accolades in memory of her late husband. In 2012, Yash Chopra died because of dengue fever and its complications.
