Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer Denied Release in Nepal

The upcoming spy-comedy Udta Teer, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, has hit a major distribution roadblock after being refused permission for public screening in Nepal.

Official correspondence issued by Bishal Bhandari, Section Officer at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of Nepal, confirmed that the film’s release has been blocked. Issued on Ashwin 30, 2083 (Bikram Sambat calendar), corresponding to October 16, 2026, the order states that the movie violates Section 5(3) of Nepal’s Film (Production, Exhibition, and Distribution) Act.

Unconventional Plot and Production Details

Directed and written by Akash A. Kaushik, Udta Teer is a collaborative production between Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta’s Dharma Productions, along with Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain’s Sikhya Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast including Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, and the late Mukul Dev.

The story centers on a Pakistani spy who infiltrates India, only to suffer severe memory loss following an accident. Believing himself to be a passionate Indian patriot, his actions trigger a series of chaotic and satirical events.

A Growing Trend of Regional Screening Bans

While several recent Indian action films—including Dhurandhar, Border 2, Fighter, Sky Force, Article 370, and Tiger 3—faced screening restrictions in select Middle Eastern markets, Udta Teer encounters censorship challenges in a neighboring South Asian territory.

Neither the producers nor the director have issued an official response regarding whether they plan to edit sensitive scenes or appeal the decision with Nepalese authorities ahead of its global rollout.
