Actress Shruti Panwar known for television shows like ‘Naamkarann‘ and ‘Jamai Raja‘ inaugurated “KITAAB” Solo Art Exhibition of three-dimensional Installation Paintings of Sumit Mishra at AIFACS Art Gallery, in New Delhi.

Actress Shruti Panwar said,” I am very happy to come to Delhi. There are many member artists in my family but it is not profession artists.I am very attracted to art, and here I am very excited to visit the art exhibition of Sumit Mishra. We have two years old together, we worked together in the film! Since then we have become good friends! I had been waiting for a long time to see the paintings made by Sumit’s and I am very happy today that I will be able to see various artworks made on the title book!”

For Sumit, books are not simply inanimate objects but eloquent containers of meaning imbued with lives of their own. In his mixed media paintings they appear in many guises, as inspirations and guides as well as documents of social changes.

Sumit feels that art can be used as the most powerful medium to establish a dialogue or to raise a concern about a cause. Through the recent exhibition titled, ‘Kitaab’ the artist is trying to open a new dialogue with the audience. “Books are records of our civilisation; they are one of the most powerful vehicles in the dissemination and preservation of knowledge. Throughout the centuries, books have also undergone various transitions, which I try to capture through my artworks”, states Sumit.

In his works, Sumit diverts from the traditional treatment of flat canvas and rather creates three dimensional relief works that seems to break the boundaries of the canvas frame. The two-dimensional installations, the use of bright and striking colours creates a feel of theatrical winglets.

Sumit who has completed Art education from Banaras Hindu University and, is well known for Art Direction and larger than life set installations for many noted Television serials as well as movies. He has held successful solo exhibitions including, ‘Kitaab’ in 2018 at Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumbai; ‘Abhivyakti’ in 2017 at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai; ‘Tranquillity’ in 2015 at Aks Art Gallery, Mumbai and has been part of prestigious group exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow to mention few.

‘Kitaab’ will be open for viewing at from 1st to 7th February 2019 from 11am to 7 pm daily. It’s indeed a refreshing and poignant experience – looking at Sumit Mishra’s paintings inspired by books, seeing how an artist pulls the images off the page and places them on the canvas.
