Anil Sharma Announces Four-Part Saga Arjun Naga Set Against 1960s Dubai Oil Rush
While recent Indian cinematic multi-part projects like Dhurandhar and Ramayana were conceived as two-part sagas, veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma is taking the trend four steps further. The director has announced that his upcoming period drama, Arjun Naga, starring his son Utkarsh Sharma, will span across four distinct feature-length installments.
Plot and Historical Backdrop
Set against the 1960s Dubai oil boom, Arjun Naga explores the historical period following the discovery of oil at the Fateh field in 1966—a turning point that transformed Dubai from a humble fishing and trading hub into a global financial powerhouse.
“The story will begin when Dubai was still a small fishing and trading centre with dusty roads and simple homes… Arjun Naga will explore the fictional characters’ power dynamics against the emirate’s changing landscape,” a source revealed to Mid-Day.
Utkarsh Sharma’s character arc follows a dramatic rags-to-riches journey, rising from extreme poverty to become one of the wealthiest figures in Dubai during the oil rush.
Ensemble Cast and Changing Titles
Anil Sharma confirmed the massive scope of the franchise, sharing details on its scale, cast, and filming locations:
“Arjun Naga is about Dubai’s oil rush in the 1960s. We are making the film in four parts, and it will have 10-12 top actors in pivotal roles spread across these instalments. The title will change with each part. We will shoot in Mumbai, Rajasthan, other parts of India, Dubai, and other international cities.”
Key Cast and Creative Team
As far as the creative team is concerned, the lead role has Utkarsh Sharma, while the actor in the negative role or antagonist include Arjun Rampal, while Key Co-Stars: Randeep Hooda and Celina Jaitly and the music composer is Himesh Reshammiya.
