Delhi High Court curbs Youtube channels from sharing fake news about Abhishek-Aishwarya Bachchan’s daughter ‘Aaradhya’

Spreading fake news and misleading information about celebrities and their families in order to obtain more views and profit has become the standard in recent years. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan petitioned the Delhi High Court on Wednesday to ban the YouTube channel from disseminating false information regarding their daughter Aaradhya’s health.

The Delhi High Court today barred YouTube channels from disseminating videos about Aaradhya’s health. The High Court barred the nine defendants’ YouTube channels, as well as their associates or agents, from further spreading or transmitting films about Aaradhya’s health condition.

Aaradhya and Abhishek were represented in court by Ameet Naik, Dayan Krishnan, and Pravin Anand. They argued, on behalf of the Bachchan family, that the defendants’ primary objective is to profit illegally off the Bachchan family’s name, even if it means inflicting harm to the family.

According to LiveLaw, the court in its interim order asked Google to inform the plaintiff about the details of the uploaders in question and stressed that similar videos, whenever brought to Google’s notice, shall also be taken down.

The court also added that it has “zero tolerance” in matters where misleading content is published on such platforms relating to the physical well being of a child.

“Every child is entitled to be treated with honour and respect, be it child of celebrity or of a commoner,” the court mentioned in its order.

“Defendants 1 to 9 (YouTube channels) are completely barred from publishing, sharing, or disseminating any content on any public platform across the internet relating to the plaintiff’s state of health or physical condition,” the court said.
