Riteish Deshmukh’s ‘Raja Shivaji’ Set for May 1, 2026 Release in Six Languages

Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company have officially confirmed that their ambitious project, Raja Shivaji, will be released worldwide on Maharashtra Day—May 1, 2026. Directed by Riteish Deshmukh, who also stars in the titular role, this historical action drama will be available in six languages: Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. This ensures that the legendary tale of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of India’s greatest warriors, reaches diverse audiences across India and beyond.
Raja Shivaji is being produced on an unprecedented scale, positioning it as a landmark cinematic event that combines cultural pride with mainstream storytelling and cinematic excellence. The film boasts an eclectic ensemble cast from both the Hindi and Marathi film industries, featuring talents such as Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, Genelia Deshmukh, and Riteish Vilasrao Deshmukh. As a pan-India film, it is expected to ignite discussions about the strength and potential of regional cinema on a global stage.

Set against a backdrop of clashing empires and ignited rebellions, Raja Shivaji chronicles the extraordinary journey of a young Shivaji who defies the odds, rebels against formidable powers, and ultimately becomes the revered Raja Shivaji, laying the foundation for Swarajya. The film features a remarkable creative team, including music maestros Ajay–Atul and legendary cinematographer Santosh Sivan, who is making his debut in Marathi cinema.
Currently the film is in production across Mumbai and Wai in Maharashtra, Raja Shivaji promises to deliver a visually immersive and emotionally resonant experience. Presented by Jio Studios and produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh under the Mumbai Film Company banner, the film is set for its global release on May 1, 2026.
