Wiki – Shankar Ehsaan Loy is an Indian group of three different musicians called Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa. The trio has recorded a number of music stuff, carried out multi instrumentalist and haven working in the field of music for more than fifty soundtracks in four different languages. They have together bagged more than twenty awards including the IIFA, Filmfare and the National Film Award apart from the number of other awards and getting nominations. They are called as the Amar Akbar Anthony of the music world in Bollywood by their critics popular in the B Town.

All the three hails from a non film music background, however, their interest and passion for the music led them to the B Town. Shankar Mahadevan has the background of software engineering, who even worked with Oracle Version Six and then headed to music by studying and mastering Western, Carnatic classical music and Hindustani music. He got his first chance in composing music with a Marathi film called Vahinichi Maya. He did playback singing for movies like Sapnay, Pukar and Biwi No.1 followed by singing the breathless song.

Ehsaan Noorani studied his musical class at Los Angeles based institute called Musicians’ Institute. He then worked with a number of big names in Music world including Ronnie Desai, Louis Banks, Kalyanji-Anandji, and Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Before coming into Bollywood, he was seen giving a number of jungles for different brands and ads. Loy Mendonsa is a trained western classical musician who even learnt Indian classical music. He has performed with a number of bands including Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar and West Side Story. He even composed the jungles and the signature tune for the TV program Fauji, The World This week, etc.

The debut of the trio came with the movie Dus of Mukul Anand. However, this opportunity was given first to Ehsaan who later roped in the other two to form a group doing the said movie, though this film couldn’t complete owing to the death of Mukul Anand. The trio later was seen producing some good music for movies like Rockford and Bhopal Express, however, these failed to bring the ripples in the Indian Film Industry. This later opened up the roads to get more movies. One of their biggest hit was Dil Chahta Hai from Farhan Akhtar wherein they gave one of the best music thus yielding the turning point in their musical career. The next big was Kal Ho Naa Ho, which garnered them their first National Film Award for the category of Best Music Director.

Some of their latest movies for which they have given music include Zindagee Na Milegi Bobara, Tere Bin Laden, Don 2, Wake up Sid, My Name is Khan, etc. However, their first overseas venture includes a movie from the United Kingdom called West is West in 2011. Apart from composing music for a number of movies and carrying out live performances, they are also involved in a number of charities programs. They have composed music for a number of health related stuff called Haath Se Haath Mila for the Aids Awareness Campaign followed a number of other similar programs.
