Yusuf Khan is better known as Dilip Kumar , an actor who has withstood the test of time and boundaries to touch hearts with his powerful performances in Indian films. The actor who is also known as the tragedy king, is famous for films like Mughal-e Azam, Ram Aur Shyam and Naya Daur. These are only a few names from the acting career of Dilip Kumar that sprawls over 40 decades. The  92 year old actor still rules the hearts of the audiences and film fanatics in India and Pakistan who behold him as the most inspiring and technically correct actor the industry has ever seen.

Born on 11 December 1922, Yousuf Khan adapted the screen name of Dilip Kumar after he met with initial success in films . Dilip portrayed tragedy roles in initial films which gave him the sobriquet of tragedy king . But later the he consciously associated himself with light and comedy films for shedding the serious aura that many supposed he carried around him. He was a also a romantic hero for he portrayed the most rebellious lover in Indian history Shezaada Salim , the son of Mughal King Akbar who revolts against his father for his love for the courtesan Anarkali . When Dilip Kumar was the Salim , Madhubala was the Anarkali and the love story created magic for the Indian audience who longed to see this historical love story on screen. After 45 years of the black and white film, it was re released in color version in 2004 and thousands rushed to watch the magic in color. The film till 2008 remained the highest earning film in Bollywood.

Devdas , a lovelorn character form the book by Sharad Chandra Chattopadhya was brought to life on screen by this tragedy king. In Naya Daur, he was the exploited peasant son who struggles against the unjust system. This was also made into a color film later on. In Ram Aur Shyam he played the double role of brothers of whom one was bold and the other a simpleton.

Dilip Kumar was nominated for various awards and he is the winner of most number of awards in Filmfare for best actor. He was dramatic, comic and natural all at the same time. He is often called the method actor for being so technically correct with acting in each genre.

 In the 80s and 90s he joined hands with Subhash Ghai and acted in Saudagar and Karma , Dharma Adhikari and few others.

Dilip Kumar did not find his life partner until 1966 when he married actress Siara Bano who was 22 years younger than him. Before this his love affair with Madhubala had cretaed lots of buzz and drama. Madhubala , the quintessential beauty of the time was restricted by her father from marrying the actor. The marriage of Dilip and Saira met a rough patch around 1980s. But the two are at present enjoying beautiful conjugal relationship after decades of togetherness.
