Vicky Kaushal’s father Sham Kaushal had cancer and recalled having suicidal thoughts

Vicky Kaushal’s father Sham Kaushal reveals his battle with stomach cancer and what he had to endure. The seasoned action director revealed to a news outlet that shortly after returning from the set of Hrithik Roshan’s Lakshya in 2003, he began experiencing gastrointestinal issues. He claimed that he visited Nanavati hospital the day after Diwali because of a severe stomach ache he was experiencing while filming Shyam Benegal’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

He disclosed that he needed surgery and that there were numerous difficulties. After receiving a stomach cancer diagnosis, he spent 50 days in the hospital. Sham Kaushal disclosed that he had suicidal thoughts while he was a patient at the hospital during the same conversation. He also talked about how Anurag Kashyap, a director, supported him.

In a conversation with ETimes, Sham Kaushal was asked who supported him throughout his difficult cancer treatment. He acknowledged that there were other individuals, but he remembered one specific instance. He said that he was hospitalised in October and that he was scheduled to shoot a movie in November. He admitted that he didn’t think he would live. Further he said, “I had even decided that I would end my life by jumping off the third floor because I couldn’t live like that. But I could not get off the bed because my stomach had been operated on. I told God, ‘Please end this. I don’t have any regrets. I came from a small village and by your grace, I lived a good life. If you want to save me, don’t make me weak.’ After that, I was at peace.”

Sham Kaushal added that he called a member of the movie production the following day to return his signing fee. He claimed that at that point, the film’s struggling director left him a message on his phone. The text said, “Sir, only you will do this film and we will wait for it,” according to what he revealed. He then waited. Black Friday was the movie in question, the action director said, and it was none other than Anurag Kashyap. He acknowledged that it was the first movie he had made following his release from the hospital.

Sham Kaushal just celebrated 42 years in the business. He has directed action scenes in numerous movies throughout the course of his long and accomplished career, including Dangal, Padmaavat, Bajirao Mastani, Krrish 3, and the recently released Gangubai Kathiawadi, among others.
