Viacom 18 locks deal with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions for distribution rights of the entire slate of forthcoming films

Recently it was reported that Karan Johar will be joining hands with South-based production house Lyca Productions to enhance his filmmaking and distribution ability. However, the deal failed to materialize. Now according to the reports, KJo’s Dharma Production has signed a deal with another mega production house, namely Viacom 18. Not only this but as per the reports, Viacom has acquired the entire forthcoming slate of Dharma Productions.

“In what could well be called as one of the biggest acquisition of recent times, Viacom 18 has acquired the distribution rights of Dharma Productions’ entire slate of films”, Bollywood Hungama quoted a source as saying.

When the source was questioned about the details of the deal then they said, “This deal came about after the deal between Dharma and Lyca Productions fell through. Karan was still on the lookout for a mega production house with good reach to partner with, and Viacom was exactly that.”

Earlier Dharma Production had a partnership with Fox Star Studios. However, it had a merger with Disney, which called for the end of the association between Dharma and Fox Star. Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan is the last film together of the production house.
