Mili First Day Box Office Collection: Janhvi Kapoor’s film struggles on its first day

Janhvi Kapoor collaborates for the first time with her father, Boney Kapoor, on the survival thriller Mili, which released on November 4th today. The CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) has certified the film as U/A, with a runtime of 2 hours and 9 minutes (129 minutes). Zee, the studio’s partner, has devised a one-of-a-kind release strategy for Janhvi’s survival thriller, which also stars Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa.

Mili released in cinemas across the country with targeted showcasing and timings in areas that are traditionally known to draw audiences for thrillers. The film released on approximately 400 screens across India (mostly multiplexes), with an outside chance of reaching 450 screens. Mili is one of the first small-budget thrillers with a well-known face to hit theaters since the pandemic, and the producers are experimenting with the release strategy in order to generate increased demand.

The opening day collection of Mili

From here, they’d like to grow big on Saturday and Sunday, then put up a Monday equal to Friday, and then sustain from there.

Meanwhile, Arjun Kapoor took to Instagram and shared a heartfelt message for sister Janhvi. He shared a throwback photo of himself and a young Janhvi and wrote, “You continue to make me prouder @janhvikapoor! Your growth as an actor, as a star is phenomenal… And you are just getting started which is really, really exciting!!! You are brilliant in #Mili – what a spine-chilling act! I wish it does phenomenally well and you get all the love that you truly deserve.Love you lots!”

Mili, a remake of the Malayalam film Helen, is a tense survivor drama that creates an emotional upheaval due to its central conceit but fails to sustain it. With the original film and a tell-all trailer already in circulation, the film’s premise is no longer a surprise, and it reduces the narrative’s what and why to just how. Still, director Mathukutty Xavier, who also directed the original Malayalam version, succeeds in tugging at our heartstrings and keeping us on the edge of our seats with the way he builds the story.
