1). Vidhu Vinod Chopra

He is a known director, producer and writer in B Town, who is behind making some of the best and creative movies including Khamosh, the series of Munnai Bhai, Parineeta and 3 Idiots. He is serious enough to put some of the best stuff in Indian Cinema, while the remake of Parineeta of Sarat Chandra with the same title is one fine example to the same. He started his career in the year 1997 and is known as one of the most incredible directors in Bollywood. His unconventional documentary called Murder at Monkey Hill really rocked and gave him applauds from all the quarters of cinema. All his movies are simply exception be it Eklavya or Munnai Bhai series, he has also made the industry feel proud for his writing and screenplays apart from producing and directing quality movies.

2). Mani Ratnam

He is known to revolutionise the South Indian Cinema particularly Tamil movies. And as he entered into Bollywood, the reverence and honour he has garnered for himself has simply grown with every passing Hindi Film he made. Every movie in Bollywood was known for its own beauty and unique style backed by incredible songs and irresistible back lighting. His movies are known to have both the stuff and style. 3). Madhur Bhandarkar

He is a man who started his career scratch. Treading the journey from a boy working in video cassette store to an ace director, he has come a long way. Trishakhi was his first directorial venture in Bollywood, later he embarked with another called Chandni Bar starring Tabu and since then it was no looking back for him. He was awarded with a number of critically acclaimed movie and getting two National awards, one for Fashion and other for Traffic Single. His movies are considered to be the replica of Indian society, which he carved with great research and study, which is the basic reason why he has the tag of a Realistic Director. All his movies like Page 3, Corporate, Satta and now the upcoming movie Calendar Girls have been critically acclaimed and box office hit placing him over the pedestal.

4). Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Another acclaimed, which deserves to be in this list is Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He is the alumnus of FTII Pune. Making his debut with the movie Khamoshi, he won a couple of awards and soon emerged out as top director in Bollywood. His next venture called Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was a big time hit and garnered a number of awards. Later the movie Devdas too received applauds from different quarters of Industry and other camps. Then embarked the movie Black, which was even enlisted by Time Magazine in the top list of movies of 2005. His movie Black has won a total of 11 different awards. He also won national award twice one for Devdas and second for Black.

5). Karan Johar

He is the son of a known filmmaker Yash Johar who was made to make a number of movies. He embarked in B Town with the debut project Kuch Kuch sizzlinga Hai. The movie was a big hit and he later went on to direct a multistarrer movie called K3G or Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, which was again a big hit. Later his movie Kal Ho Na Ho with SRK and Preity Zinta too was among the hits of 2003. The script for the movie was from Karan, while it was directed by Nikhil Advani. The movie was a big hit also in the overseas market including US and UK. Karan is also known to appear over a number of shows including his TV show called Koffee With Karan wherein you would find a wide range of celebrities visiting. His other movies include My Name is Khan and Dostana, while his recent movies include Students of the Year and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.

6). Ram Gopal Verma

This man is known to have his own style of uniqueness in direction and filmmaking in Bollywood. He too unlike Bhandarkar has come a long way, from being a video storeowner to a skilled director. He got the chance to work in South Indian Cinema and later made his entry in Bollywood. His first Telugu movie is Shiva, which emerged out as a landmark for the South India Films. His next movie was Kshanan Kshanan was yet another big blockbuster. His first big success in Bollywood was Aamir Khan and Urmila Mathondkar starrer Rangeela. His next movie was Satya, which was based on Mumbai underworld, which was considered to be the crime epic. Again on the same lines, he directed Company. The movie was applauded by both audience and critics, the other remarkable movies included Sarkar, Sarkar Raj, Bhoot, etc, which was applauded over the box office.

7). Raj Kumar Santoshi

He started his career as assistant director but later when enter into the director’s shoe, he simply did a smashing start with a movie called Ghayal in the year 1990. The movie was both critically and commercially acclaimed, giving the filmmaker a number of awards including Best Movie, Best Story and best director along with others like Best Actor, Best Cinematography, in fact, his movie also bagged the National Award for the Best Popular Film category.. some of his key movies include Damini, Andaz Apna Apna, Ghatak, Barsaat, Pukar, Lajja, Family, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, etc. With making a diverse set of movies in Bollywood, he was considered to be among the versatile directors in Bollywood.

8). Ashutosh Gowariker

He started his career working with TV shows including Sony TV’s CID and then headed to Bollywood working as assistant director to Ketan Mehta in 1993 for the movie called Pehla Nasha. He then got the chance to work with Aamir Khan directing his film called Baazi in 1995. His next movie Lagaan with Aamir Khan was even nominated in Oscar Academy Award under the Best Foreign Language Movie. in the year 2004, he directed Swadesh with Shah Rukh Khan, which was critically acclaimed. His epic love story Jodha Akbar starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai was also among the critically acclaimed movies of 2008. He is among the few directors in Bollywood who tread rare path in the industry. Currently he is working on his next venture called Mohan Jodaro, which is again a epic period love story starring Hrithik Roshan.

9). Imtiyaz Ali

Another ace director in this list is Imtiyaz Ali, who also happens to be an actor and writer apart from directing the movie. Imtiyaz Ali hails from Jamshedpur but was brought up in New Delhi wherein he got associated with Theatres and then headed to Mumbai, the city of dreams to pursue his dreams. He started his career with directing a couple of TV programs in 2005, while entered Bollywood directing the popular movie Socha Na Tha starring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. Most of his movies have been applauded for having unique and incredible scripts and perfect direction. Rockstar starring Ranbir Kapoor and Zeenath Fakhri was among the top movies of 2011, while he came into limelight with the movie Jab We Met. As a producer his first movie is Highway with Alia Bhatt, which released in April 2014.

10). Raj Kumar Hirani

He is also known as Raju Hirani who hails from Nagpur and is known to make some of the best movies in Bollywood. He entered in Bollywood working as editor and then headed to be a screen writer before he actually heading inside the B Town as director. In fact, he was more known as an ad director, which he took up during his struggling days, however, after his entry into Bollywood, it was no looking back to the ad world and soon he carved his niche as an ace director. Some of his popular movies include the Munna Bhai series, 3 Idiots and the upcoming PK starring Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma.
