The festivals in India have been always the big business time for Bollywood. Hence you can find a number of movies hitting popular festivals like Diwali, Holi or Christmas is no surprising. Eid too is no exception, being one of the biggest Festivals of Muslims; this festival too has been targeted by Bollywood to release a number of movies. Most of the movies hitting during this festive time has been a big hit. With Eid coming next week, it would be fair to check the top 10 big hit Bollywood movies released during this festival.
1). Bhool Bhulaiya (2007)
The year of 2007 has seen a couple of movies embarking the theaters, Bhool Bhulaiyaa was one of it, which not only turned out super hit but also entertained the people with its psychological thrill in it. It was released in the Eid of October 2007 with main leads as Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiney Ahuja and others like Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal in supporting roles. It was a big successful movie at box office garnering loads of positive resviews.
2). Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007)
The year 2007 had two movies hitting during the Eid festival, which included Laaga Chunari Mein Daag. The main leads as Rani Mukherji, Konkona Sen, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bacchan and Kunal Kapoor. Rani Mukherji was nominated for the best performance at Filmfare, while she bagged the award at Stardust Star away of the year.
3). Kidnap (2008)
The movie Kidnap was released in Eid 2008 with lead stars as the novice Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Minissha Lamba and Vidya Malvade. It was released on 2nd October close to Eid. It really garnered an average review from the critics, however, at the end it was able to do better than the other making a decent collection at the Box Office.
4). Wanted (2009)
Salam Khan is known to make movies on this special festival and most of this movies in the recent past have been made for this festival. It all started with Wanted, which hit the theatres in September 2009 turning a big super hit. It was a crime action thriller directed by the man Prabhu Deva, it was among the second highest grosser of the year.
5). Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009)
Another movie, which hit the theatres the same Eid was Dil Bole Hadippa starring Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee. Though in comparison to Salman’s Wanted was low in collection, yet was able to secure the tag of hit with it. The performance of Rani Mukherjee playing a young Punjabi Kuda to play in the cricket match got applauds from various segment of B Town. In fact, she also fetched few awards for the same.
6). Dabangg (2010)
Unlike the previous year, 2010 too has the movie from Salman called Dabangg making a debut for Sonakshi Sinha. It was released in September. Making the movie one of the highest grosser of the year and giving a good launch pad for the lady actor. It turned out the highest grosser of the year in 2010 winning a number of awards including even the National Film Award for Best Popular Film rendering the wholesome entertainment.
7). Bodyguard (2011)
The next year too, you have Salman making headlines in this segment. Bodyguard produced by Atul Agnihotri and main leads as Salman and Kareena simply broke all the records that year. The very first day it got a flying start collecting the highest amount for 2011 and thus remained the thirst highest in the year 2012.
8). Ek Tha Tiger (2012)
Salman doesn’t stop there, he seems to have made it a point to make a movie on this particular festival and Ek Tha Tiger was seen hitting the theatres in 2012 Eid. Having both the Independence day and Eid coming closer to this day, the movie turned out to be one of the highest grossing among the Bollywood films, which even exceeded other movies released earlier and even in the recent past.
9). Chennai Express (2013)
Unlike Salman, SRK also tried his luck releasing his Chennai Express during Eid of 2013. The movie had Deepika Padukone while it was directed by Rohit Shetty releasing last August on this auspicious festival. Chennai Express was among the highest Bollywood grosser in Indian market and abroad and fetched a number of awards as well.
10). Kick (2014)
Again Salman to hit this Eid with his forthcoming movie called Kick. He would be seen in the Devil avatar in this movie. It is produced and directed by Sajid Nadiawala featuring Salman, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Randeep Hooda. It is basically a remake of a Telugu movie with the same title and is scheduled to hit this Friday.
