‘Thug Life’ Trailer: Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR Face Off in Mani Ratnam’s Gritty Gangster Epic

The makers of Thug Life have officially released the film’s trailer, generating significant excitement for this highly anticipated Tamil movie. Directed by the acclaimed Mani Ratnam, the film stars legendary actor Kamal Haasan alongside Silambarasan TR. This project marks a reunion between Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, who previously collaborated on the iconic film Nayakan (1987). Thug Life is produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, with distribution handled by Red Giant Movies.
The trailer showcases a poignant father-son-like bond between Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR. In a touching moment, Kamal’s character expresses gratitude, saying, “We both will be together till the end. Our destinies were written to be one.” Kamal Haasan portrays Rangaraya Sakthivel, a gangster who announces that his syndicate will be co-managed by Silambarasan’s character, Amar. However, tensions arise, leading to a clash between the two. Thug Life appears to be a globe-trotting gangster drama packed with action sequences, and the trailer even features Kamal Haasan in a de-aged avatar, adding to the film’s intrigue.
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Kamal Haasan shared that Thug Life is based on his original script titled Amar Hai. He explained, “I finished a script and it was called Amar Hai, which was a pun. A man who is believed to be dead is not dead. His name is Amar, and that’s the problem. Mani took it as an idea and enhanced it.”The film features music composed by A R Rahman, a frequent collaborator with Mani Ratnam, while Ravi K Chandran serves as the cinematographer and Sreekar Prasad handles editing.Thug Life is set to hit theaters worldwide on June 5, 2025. The movie’s first single, Jingucha, featuring lyrics by Kamal Haasan, has already created a buzz among fans.
In addition to Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR, the film also stars Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Sanya Malhotra, Abhirami, Nasser, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George. The action choreography is managed by the Anbariv masters, and the film will be dubbed in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.Mani Ratnam’s previous films, including the Ponniyin Selvan series, have enjoyed success at the box office, with the first part releasing on September 30, 2022, and the second on April 23, 2023.
