Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi’s upcoming sports-comedy ‘Next Goal Wins’ has got a new release date. The film will arrive in cinemas on 17 November 2023. The filmmaker took to Twitter to announce the new release date of the film along with a new poster.

Revealing the release date, Taika Waititi wrote in his tweet, “Next Goal Wins. Based on a true story. My least cynical film in which nothing bad happens to anyone. Imagine that? In theaters November 17th,”

The film’s release date has previously been pushed back several times. The film, which began production in 2019, was originally slated to be released in April 2023, however it was then pushed back to September 9, 2023. Finally, it has been scheduled to be out in cinemas on 17 November.

Based on true events, the film stars Michael Fassbender as the coach of the American Samoa football team, which is widely regarded as the worst in the world, and is attempting to turn things around in time for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. A daunting assignment, given that the club is best known for losing a historic 31-0 World Cup qualifying match against Australia in 2002.

Directed and co-written by Waititi, the sports-comedy also stars Will Arnett, Oscar Kightley, Dave Fane, Beulah Koale and Rachel House.
