Things that make Urvashi Dholakia’s Komolika- an iconic character!

Things that make Urvashi Dholakia’s Komolika- an iconic character: The 2001 daily soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay created a lot of buzz at that time. The show starred Shweta Tiwari, Cezzane Khan, who was later replaced by Hiten Tejwani, Ronit Roy, and Urvashi Dholakia, who portrayed Prerna Sharma, Anurag Basu, Rishabh Bajaj, and Komolika Majumdar, and was produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms on Star Plus. Kasautii Zindagii Kay became the longest-running and top-rated Hindi GEC series after Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. These three were produced by Balaji Telefilms. One of the TRPs went to the show, which helped StarPlus take the top spot.

Every single character gets praised by the audience. But Komalika is on another level. Urvashi Dholakia portrayed the role of Komolika Majumdar. Her acting, her dialogue, and her dress were an inspiration for the women of that time. And this is not enough.

Let’s see why vamp Komolika were the icons of that time.

Komolika was the archetypal evil rich girl who had a crush on the main character, Anurag. She did everything in her power to separate him from his lover and resident ‘sanskari bahu’, Prerna.

Her dressing sense:

The long snakey bindis, the bold backless blouses, the evil head tilt followed by the twist of a lock of hair everything is perfect for the villainy role.

Urvashi Dholakia:

Dramatic background music:

After serving some powerful negative dialogues, a sound used to play, like Komolikaaaaaa. She had a unique dramatic flair and get-up, which ended up defining a template for many TV vamps to come. Today, she has gotten a second life in humorous memes and online fan pages, with some even calling her a queen icon.

Yet, of course, we can’t deny that she is part of a storytelling style and TV soap universe that gave women like her little space or depth and reinforced harmful gender stereotypes.

How do you look back at ‘Komolika”?
