The Hindi drama, which stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, and Siddhi Idhani, has made news for a variety of reasons, including factual inaccuracy and the fostering of hatred against other communities. Critics gave the picture negative reviews, and some even demanded that it be delayed or banned.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Kerala Story had a 36.13% overall occupancy in the Hindi market. The Kerala Story has become the fifth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023, and given the opening weekend collection, the film has a potential to cross the Rs. 100 crore barrier and emerge as a blockbuster in the next few days at the Indian box office. Kerala Story was declared tax free in Madhya Pradesh. However, the film’s screening has been cancelled in many theatres in Tamil Nadu and several other states.
The film’s story follows four female characters, Shalini (played by Sharma), Nimah (played by Yogita Bihani), Asifa (played by Sonia Balani), and Geetanjali (played by Siddhi Idnani), as they become radicalized and eventually join the ISIS terrorist organization.
Sudipto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’ was formerly defined as the account of over 32,000 Kerala women who were reportedly radicalised by Islamic fanatics. However, after internet objections against the film’s falsehoods, the number was reduced from 32,000 to three. The film’s creators also agreed to remove the teaser from all social media accounts.
