Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy Becomes Only Indian Film Selected for Letterboxd’s Inaugural Video Store: “Finally Available to a Wider Audience”

Anurag Kashyap’s critically acclaimed neo-noir thriller Kennedy has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the only Indian film chosen for the debut lineup of Letterboxd’s first-ever Video Store. This new online rental platform, launching on December 10, offers a curated selection of globally celebrated films, including festival favorites and Academy Award submissions that have largely remained inaccessible to general audiences.

Kennedy, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, quickly gained international attention and is now set to reach cinephiles across 23 countries through Letterboxd’s transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) service, allowing viewers to rent the film without a subscription.

Expressing his excitement, Anurag Kashyap said, “I am happy that finally the film will be available for the general audience to watch in some parts of the world. It’s one of my most personal films, and I would love to get audience feedback and reaction. I am thankful to Letterboxd for putting it on their new platform. We are hopeful to release it in India soon as the producers are working on it.”Produced by Ranjan Singh, Good Bad Films, and Zee Studios, Kennedy stars Rahul Bhatt and Sunny Leone.

The film was shot predominantly at night over an intense 30-day schedule in Mumbai. It follows an insomniac former cop, presumed dead, who continues to navigate a corrupt system while seeking personal redemption. Its moody visuals and gripping narrative have earned widespread critical acclaim.Producer Ranjan Singh called the selection a “momentous milestone,” highlighting the film’s journey through nearly 30 international festivals. He added, “We are extremely proud as the only Indian film in this lineup and thank Letterboxd and Zee Studios for their support.

We are working on the India release soon.” Zee Studios’ Chief Business Officer Umesh Bansal echoed the enthusiasm, praising the film’s overseas reception and looking forward to audience responses. Sophie Shi, Head of Studios at EST N8, which facilitated the release, said, “We’re proud to help bring Kennedy to audiences through Letterboxd’s Video Store. The film embodies bold Asian storytelling, and we’re thrilled it will reach more cinephiles.

Following its Cannes debut, Kennedy screened at major festivals worldwide, including Sydney, Bucheon, Neuchâtel, Indie Meme Austin, Melbourne, London, Fantastic Fest (US), Jio MAMI Mumbai, and Kolkata International Film Festival. The film will be available on Letterboxd Video Store in countries such as the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Switzerland.
