Chhorri Movie Review: Nushrratt Bharuccha’s acting steals the show but Vishal Furia fails to improve his own content!

Director Vishal Furia made the film ‘Chhori’ as a remake of his own Marathi film ‘Lapachpi.’ In this Hindi remake, Meeta Vashisht and Nushrat Bharucha play the characters played by Usha Nayak and Pooja Sawant in the original film. Because the film is a remake, there will undoubtedly be similarities. Flicks such as ‘Dhadak’ and ‘Mimi’ have recently been remakes of Marathi films. The film ‘Chhori’ makes the same mistake that Shashank Khaitan made with his version of ‘Sairat,’ ‘Dhadak.’
One of the motivations for filming a low-budget film about a regional language in greater depth is to reach the widest possible audience. The second reason for the remake is that it will allow filmmakers to realise their dreams that were not realised in the original film. More money means a greater budget, bigger stars, enthralling music, and jaw-dropping special effects. The most significant aspect of the remake, though, is the film’s soul.
The plot of the film ‘Lapachpi’ is that a pregnant woman becomes entangled in the centre of a family with heartbreaking past stories. Some accidents occur in the joint family of two brothers, and they have been waiting for a pregnant woman to come to their house and stay the prescribed number of nights safely for a long time.
In the Netflix film ‘Kali Khuhi,’ where girls are poisoned to death as soon as they are born, viewers have also seen the story of the black tricks of cursed stories. The situation is similar in this case as well. However, it should be mentioned that ‘Lapachpi’ was released four years ago. ‘Chhori’ is released in 2021, when the population of women in the country will have surpassed that of men.
The film ‘Chhori’ is a one man show. If Vishal’s head was the crown of its triumph, he is also accountable for its failure. The atmosphere he seeks to create before bringing the film to the village is spoiled for the first 17 minutes of the film. By the halfway point of the film, the audience is losing patience, and the film’s heroine Sakshi’s remark, “Why should a wife consume meals only after her husband?” reveals the film’s topic ahead of time.
Nushrratt Bharuccha’s bold choice by expanding her horizons is to look out for. The actress plays a mother in this film who is trapped in a predicament that threatens her pregnant child. She does everything possible to save it and discovers the deepest secret. When she feels terrified and helpless, Nushrratt is nearly in every frame of the film, and she manages to give us the thrills and chills. Mita Vashisht is cast as the film’s second most prominent character. Her character undergoes a total 180-degree makeover and completely changes colours. The actress demonstrates her talent and versatility.
Ketan Sodha’s background score is eerie and fitting for the film. It does give me the goosebumps, therefore I give it a thumbs up. The greatest option is to have the movie songless for the majority of the time. Production design is also to be commended because there is a finite amount of space available, and constructing visually stunning and terrifying sets is a skill.
All in all, Nushrratt Bharuccha steals the show with her brilliant acting performance in Vishal Furia’s Chhorii.
