The film deals with a story of an international hockey player called Sandeep Singh (played by Diljit Dosanjh) who later got paralyzed and comes on a wheelchair for two years while meeting an accident in 2006. The film has a tagline that states -The Greatest Comeback Story of the Hockey Legend Sandeep Singh, which makes it the story of a sportsman who fights against all odds and returns to his feet to play the sports thus making a great comeback to international hockey in the year 2008. He then plays an important role in getting the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under his captaincy and even gets qualified for the 2012 Olympics. So, what goes in the film is interesting to catch.
The film deals with an interesting story which not was a popular event in the life of people. Thanks to Hockey which is still regarded as a second class game compared to the sports like Cricket, people barely knew about the incident despite this sports has been our national game. Little has been done to promote this sport among our younger generation as we are more under pressure of sports like Cricket. Nevertheless, the director has made all his efforts to make a script worth watching and on the face of it appears so. In fact, even if you sit and catch the whole film, you would find the director doing the justice for the same. He has made the story worthy and interesting for the audience to catch and at the same time helped the sport to get promoted as it has been getting a second class treatment.
Now, talking about the performances, the actor Diljit Dosanjh has been incredible in his performance, he has left no stone unturned to present himself with one of the best ways over the silver screen. He has not only gone into the shoes on the character correctly but has gone one step ahead to perform it with ace and professionalism. Kudos to the actor, very well done. The others like Tapsee Pannu, and Angad Bedi playing the love interest and his coach respectively too have done justice to their characters. The other elements like songs, music, photography, direction and technical elements like editing and other things have simply gone beyond the expectation.
Soorma The Last Word
The film has much to deliver when it comes to the sports thing. The makers are successful in presenting a decent movie before the audience. In a way they have also contributed in promoting a film that happens to be a neglected one despite being the national game. So, if you are making any a decision to catch this film this weekend, it can be a decent choice.
