Sikandar IMAX Bookings Open; Set for Three-Way IMAX Clash with L2: Empuraan & A Minecraft Movie Next Week

Advance bookings for Sikandar officially began on Tuesday, March 25. While it was announced on March 19 that the film would also be released in IMAX, initial bookings were only available for 2D screens, leading many to speculate about the film’s IMAX release. Rumors circulated that there would be a delay in the IMAX format’s availability, but those concerns were put to rest today.

Earlier today, IMAX screens in the southern cities of Bengaluru and Chennai opened advance bookings for Sikandar. However, the film has only been allocated two shows across all cinemas in Bengaluru. The remaining three shows have been assigned to L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, which has already made a significant impact at the box office both in India and internationally.

In venues like PVR VR Mall in Bengaluru and the two IMAX screens in Chennai, Sikandar will screen one show, while L2 Empuraan will occupy the rest. The chances of Sikandar getting IMAX shows in Kochi and Trivandrum are slim, given L2 Empuraan’s strong performance in Kerala.In contrast, Sikandar is expected to perform better in Mumbai and other Hindi-speaking markets, and more clarity will emerge once advance bookings open in these areas.

The IMAX at Inox Jio World Plaza in BKC, Mumbai, has already allocated four shows to L2 Empuraan on Sunday, March 30—the same day Sikandar releases—leaving just one show for Sikandar. However, trade sources indicate this allocation is an exception and may not be replicated in other northern theaters.

A Three-Way Clash on the Horizon

In an unprecedented move, a three-way clash will occur in IMAX screens starting Friday, April 4. reports of Bollywood Hungama states that Warner Bros will release A Minecraft Movie, which will be presented in IMAX 3D. The studio and industry analysts believe this film could attract audiences, especially since it’s based on a popular video game and coincides with the start of summer vacations in many regions. Additionally, the casting of Jason Momoa is expected to draw in viewers.
