Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor Join Forces for Dinesh Vijan’s Romantic-Comedy ‘Param Sundari’: Report
Following the record-breaking success of Stree 2, producer Dinesh Vijan is set to embark on an exciting new project featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. Speculation about their collaboration has been swirling for some time, but Maddock Films has now confirmed their involvement—with an intriguing twist. Initially, the trio intended to create a suspenseful thriller for the big screen. However, after careful reflection, Vijan and Malhotra recognized a shift in audience preferences. According to a report from Peeping Moon, it became apparent that thrillers were increasingly finding their audience on streaming platforms rather than in cinemas. This realization prompted the decision to shelve the project, aptly titled Spider, and seek new creative paths.
This change in direction led to a collaborative brainstorming session with director Tushar Jalota, known for his acclaimed film Dasvi. An industry insider revealed, “Dinesh Vijan had originally signed Sidharth and Janhvi for a gritty thriller, with Tushar attached as the director. However, as time went on, both Dinesh and Sidharth recognized that the script had limited box office appeal, given that audiences now lean towards watching thrillers on OTT platforms instead of in theaters. They mutually decided to cancel the project and began exploring alternative story concepts with Tushar. After considering several ideas, they settled on a romantic comedy, which Janhvi enthusiastically embraced and quickly joined the team.
It’s the same group with a fresh script, ready to move forward. ”Tentatively titled Param Sundari, after a popular song from Maddock Films’ Mimi, the film is shaping up to be a light-hearted, family-friendly romantic comedy. It’s expected to resonate with audiences in a manner similar to Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, another successful Maddock Films release from earlier this year. Currently, Param Sundari is in pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin in November or December.
This project marks Malhotra’s first collaboration with Maddock Films, while it’s Kapoor’s second after Roohi. For Malhotra, it represents a return to the rom-com genre after a decade-long hiatus, providing a refreshing change following the recent box office disappointment of Yodha. Kapoor is set to shoot this film before diving into Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari alongside Varun Dhawan, as well as Neeraj Ghaywan’s upcoming drama with Ishaan Khatter. Additionally, she will star in Ram Charan’s next project.
