Shweta Mohan  is among the versatile playback singers of B Town apart from the South Indian Cinema. She comes from Chennai, Tamil Nadu and was born in this city on 19th November 1986. She comes from a renounce music family as her mother Sujhatha Mohan is a popular playback singer in the south. Her upbringing was amidst music and dance, which helped her carve her career in this field. Since her childhood she was trained in Carnatic Classical vocal under the known people like Binni Krishnakumar who is a noted singer, she then learn western vocal and piano from Augustine Paul followed by learning Hindustani Vocal from Fayaz Khan.

She started her career in singing when she was barely 10 years of age with the song called “Ini Achcham Achcham Illai”from the film Indira with AR Rahman as the music director of the film in 1995. However, she took break to formally return a full-fledged singer with the song “Yedhedo Ennangal Vandhu” from Pattiyal in 2006. Since then it was no looking back for her as she has worked with one of the best music directors. These include A. R. Rahman, Illayaraja, Ousepachan, Deepak Dev, M. Jayachandran, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, G. V. Prakash, Sharreth, Johnson,  Vidyasagar,Kannan, Mani Sharma, N. R. Raghunanthan, Devi Sri Prasad Anirudh Ravichander and Manikanth Kadri to name a few.

She has won a number of awards as well, which include Filmfare Award, Radio Mirchi Award, Kerala State Film Award, Vanitha Film Award and Film Critics Award, to name a few. She has own effervescent style of singing with many veteran music directors and composers both in South and Bollywood. She has also embarked with her own music albums, which include Madhuram (Love Song), Mazhakkalli (Malayalam Rain Song), Thrahimam Vol.2 (Christian Devotional), Meghamalhar (Love song), Punyadinamalle (Ennennum), Mazha Pole (Mounam Pranayam), Chiriyil Nin- Muth (Pop) and Raavil Paranhuvaru- Muth(pop) to name a few. Some of the Bollywood films for which she has sung include Guru, Raavan and David as she primarily sings for South Indian films including Malayalam and Kannada. As far as her personal life is concerned, she is married to Ashwin Shashi her own classmate.

She is an admired singer in her branch, for more reasons, not only for being the daughter of a respectable singer. Shweta’s first recording was for Sri AR Rahman as part of the children’s chorus for the songs ‘Kuchi Kuchi Rakkamma’ (Bombay) and ‘Accham Accham Illai’ (Indira). Her first Tamil solo was for the movie ‘Three Roses’ composed by Sri Karthik Raja and the first Malayalam solo was for the movie ‘Lion’ composed by Sri Deepak Dev. Shweta has come a long way since the start of her musical journey over 15 years ago and is going strong. Playback career:

First recording for Sri A.R.Rahman as part of the children’s chorus for the songs ‘Kuchi kuchi rakkamma’ (movie-Bombay) and ‘Accham accham illai’ (Indira).

First solo voice release in the movie ‘Three roses’ (2001) for Mr. Karthik Raja.

Sung for various music directors in multiple Indian languages.
